December 4 - Smith Center Care Homes and Historical Society): Kansas Corps volunteers will serve with Smith Center Care Homes and Historical Society on Saturday, December 4. Volunteers will be painting at two long-term care facilities: Smith County Memorial Hospital - Long Term Care and Deseret Health Care. Volunteers will also be assisting the Smith County Historical Museum with their photograph display.

OCTOBER 16 & 30 - Wichita area Angel Food Ministries (AFM): Kansas Corps volunteers will serve with Angel Food Ministries on Saturday, October 16, and Saturday, October 30. Volunteers will be distributing flyers with information about Angel Food Ministries throughout 3 neighborhoods in Wichita. Volunteers will also assist sites with packing food boxes for distribution. To date we have committed Kansas Corps volunteers from:

Butler County History Center & Kansas Oil Museum Service Project
JUNE 26, 2010 - Butler County History Center: Volunteers will be painting and cleaning the Kansas Oil Museum's buildings on Saturday, June 26, 2010. The opportunity to serve the Kansas Oil Museum first came back in January for Kansas Day, but was called off due to inclement weather. In order fulfill Kansas Corps' commitment, volunteers were organized to help maintain the museum grounds. To date we have committed Kansas Corps volunteers from:

Kansas Corps KMOM Service Project
APRIL 17, 2010 – Kansas Mission of Mercy (KMOM): Volunteers will assist with taking down the ad-hoc dental clinic in Independence, KS on Saturday, April 17, 2010. This is one way that Kansas Corps can give back, while the Kansas Mission of Mercy volunteers provide specialized care for those in need of dental assistance! Ronald McDonald Service Project
FEBRUARY 17, 2010 – Kansas Board of Regents Student Advisory Committee (KBOR SAC): Kansas Corps volunteers and advocates will serve at the Ronald McDonald House, Topeka. They will assist by cleaning storage areas and reloading items into new shelving units at the charity house.

Kansas Corps Kansas Day Service Project
JANUARY 29 & 30, 2010 – Kansas Corps Kansas Day Service Project: Kansas Corps volunteers will be serving in a variety of ways at the Kansas State Historical Society in Topeka, KS, on Friday, January 29, 2010, and at the Butler County History Center in El Dorado, KS, on Saturday, January 30, 2010. Many historical museums and sites have been strained financially, and in some cases, even shut down. Kansas Corps volunteers will help commemorate Kansas history, and encourage Kansans to appreciate Kansas history.
Kansas Corps partnered with the Kansas Campus Compact, Kansas State Historical Society, and the Kansas Oil Museum and Butler County History Center.
Kansas Corps December 2009 Service Project
DECEMBER 12, 2009 – Kansas Corps December Service Project: Kansas Corps Campus Leaders and volunteers will be entertaining and engaging with residents of long-term care facilities throughout the state. Kansas Corps Campus Leaders and volunteers will also meet with their Kansas Regional Ombudsmen to learn more about what they do, why it is so important, and how to be involved in the future. It is all about giving back in the ways that we can. The counties that will have service projects are:

Greensburg, Kansas
OCTOBER 24, 2009 – National Make a Difference Day: Student volunteers from all over Kansas gathered in the community of Greensburg, KS to assist its residents in getting a step closer to rebuilding their community. Greensburg, a community devastated by a tornado in May 2007, needed assistance with planting trees, laying sod, spreading mulch, and other general maintenance jobs. On April 4, 2009, students and sponsors from six colleges and universities across the state converged on the town of Chapman, Kansas serving the community through various projects. The Chapman community was devastated by a tornado in June, 2008, and although a great deal of rebuilding, cleanup and repair has been done, much remains to be accomplished. Kansas Corps brought the community one step closer to accomplishing their goals. They preformed tasks such as removing metal from a creek bed, filling holes left by tree removal, insulating, framing, dry walling and resetting windows of a home, cleaning yards, painting a house, repairing a deck and installing a porch rail. The schools that took part in assisting the Chapman Community follow:
Melvern, Kansas
On April 19, 2008, over 50 students and sponsors from 6 colleges and universities across the state gathered to create a hiking and biking trail in the community of Melvern, Kansas. Working with the local “Friends of the Trail” committee and their partners, Westar Electric’s Green Team, the Kansas Trails Council and the PRIDE organization, these students were able to help a small community convert what was once a landfill into a health and fitness trail that will stimulate their local economy. In addition to promoting fitness, the trails are being utilized as “outdoor” classrooms for the community and school districts in the surrounding area.
